A Maersk Line vessel first called China in 1924 and Maersk Line's first regular liner shipping route was established in 1928, linking China and North America. Maersk Line was one of the first foreign shipping lines given license to operate in China and today, China is one of Maersk Line’s biggest markets. The Maersk Group continues to play a role in improving China’s transport infrastructure and shipping connectivity.
Maersk Group’s direct investment and procurement in China is in excess of USD 15 billion since 1996. The Group is represented at more than 40 locations in China with a total of almost 26,000 employees.
