INTRODUCTION
Multinational companies operate in an increasingly volatile geopolitical world characterized notably by systemic rivalry between China and the West and by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The world seems to be heading towards polarization between liberal democracies lead by USA and authoritarian regimes lead by China at a time when the world’s largest challenges (climate change and biodiversity crisis) require global solutions.
The economic outlook is clouded with uncertainty on the backdrop of the global COVID pandemic causing havoc with global supply chains and triggering inflationary pressures.
Board rooms are faced with new dilemmas and challenges as witnessed by quite a number of Danish companies in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion into Ukraine.
How do Danish companies navigate in a New World Order, notably vis-à-vis China? China is today Denmark’s 3rd largest export market for goods and services when including indirect exports and is poised to become the world’s largest economy.
Is there a need to rebalance your China strategy?
WHY PARTICIPATE
It is increasingly important for Danish companies to understand the drivers, dynamics, and implications of the New World Order to ensure that the strategy is optimally designed in terms of robustness and agility. This conference will provide directors and executives with the means to discuss and share insights and perspectives on how best to respond to these challenges.

On Saturday 22nd of October China wrapped up the 20th CPC Congress. The Congress is a milestone in China’s political and economic development and takes place every five years. At this congress Xi Jinping was approved for a third five-year term as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. Furthermore, during the Congress there were many changes in China’s top leadership which send signals of China’s political and economic course and direction over the next five years.
At this webinar hosted by Danske Bank and Danish-Chinese Business Forum (DCBF), we will look at the key takeaways from the Congress and present views on where China is heading. Professor and expert in Chinese politics, Kjeld Erik Brødsgaard will take stock of the changes in the top leadership and present his views on what it signals on China’s political course. Danske Bank’s China economist, Allan von Mehren will talk about the economic takeaways and give his view on where China’s economic priorities and growth is heading. The EU-China Business Association, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, and BusinessEurope are delighted to invite you to the 'European Business in China: Position Paper 2022/2023' launch.
This Position Paper of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is the culmination of nine months of dedicated work by 41 working groups and sub-working groups and forums. This year’s Executive Position paper outlines, how over the last year, there has been a significant shift in focus at European companies' headquarters (HQs) when evaluating China.
By prioritizing ideology over economic concerns, China's business environment is becoming less predictable, reliable and efficient. While opportunities for European companies remain, they must now develop strategies to deal with an ever-growing list of risks stemming from both emerging legislation—within and outside of China—and geopolitical developments. Join us to understand the key drivers behind these trends and their implications for European business.
Program:
11:00-11:05: Welcome and introduction by Ms. Gwenn Sonck, Executive Director, EU-China Business Association & Flanders-China Chamber of Commerce
11:05-11:35: Presentation of the Position Paper 2022/2023 by Mr. Joerg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China
