Date: September 16, 2026
Event: Focus Group Meeting
Time: 9:00-11:00 CEST
Exclusive conference - by invitation only
The discussion will explore how China-based teams can contribute beyond strategy implementation by providing valuable insights into China’s geopolitical, regulatory and business environment, and how these perspectives can be effectively integrated into HQ’s strategic decision-making.
The programme includes a presentation by Klara Christensen, Director of Public Affairs, Danfoss A/S, followed by Catharina Sørensen, Director of Government and Public Affairs, The LEGO Group, who will supplement the discussion with her own experiences and reflections.
The aim is to facilitate a candid exchange on what works in practice:
How to unlock the strategic value of local expertise, strengthen dialogue between headquarters and China, and build organizational structures that allow companies to respond effectively to an increasingly complex geopolitical and regulatory environment.
NB: The Focus Group Meeting is 'by invitation only', aimed at Danish companies that have production facilities or other types of subsidiaries in China. If interested to learn more about the event, please contact Secretary General Hans Henrik Pontoppidan at hhp@dcbf.dk.

The Danish Board Leadership Society and the Danish-Chinese Business Forum invite board members and senior executives to a strategic discussion of how China’s next Five-Year Plan may reshape competitive conditions, technology leadership and market access. The session will help boards identify the questions that should inform corporate strategy, risk oversight and investment priorities for 2026–2030.
Speakers
Henrik Andersen, CEO, Vestas
Markus Hermann Chen, Co-founder & Managing Director, China Macro Group
Michala Fischer-Hansen, EVP, Lundbeck
Tom Behrens-Sørensen, Chair, Danish Chinese Business Forum
Bente Overgaard, CEO, The Danish Board Leadership Society (moderator)
China’s five-year plans have played a central role in the country’s emergence as the world’s second-largest economy and a strategic competitor to the United States. China also holds a leading position in 66 of the 74 critical technology fields assessed by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. The 15th Five-Year Plan, covering 2026–2030, is expected to accelerate China’s drive for self-reliance in critical technologies and strategic sectors while sustaining its export ambitions. Priority areas include new energy, advanced materials, humanoid robotics, biotechnology, aerospace and quantum technology. These priorities are likely to strengthen Chinese companies in both established and emerging industries, intensifying competition in China and across global markets.
Denmark’s strategic strengths overlap significantly with sectors prioritised by Chinese policymakers and pursued by both private and state-owned enterprises. This convergence is already evident in wind energy, with similar dynamics emerging in life sciences and the maritime supply chain.
Boards should assess the 15th Five-Year Plan through both a risk and an opportunity lens. Its implications will extend beyond China to the United States, the European Union and markets across the Global South. China-related decisions should therefore be tested against their potential consequences in other jurisdictions, particularly for companies with substantial exposure to both the US and Chinese markets.
Our speakers will examine China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and assess the strategic choices available to European companies. The discussion will identify the questions boards should ask about China’s potential impact on competitive positioning, operations, supply chains, technology dependencies, investment decisions and long-term corporate strategy.

In the past foreign companies have shied away from litigation in China, but all this is changing as significant progress has been made throughout the judicial system. Join Ai-Leen Lim, CEO & Principal Counsel of AWA Asia in Beijing, for this webinar highlighting critical cases that showcase how foreign businesses are actively litigating in China – and often successfully.
We will cover cases detailing instances of bad-faith trademark registration, securing China’s coveted well-known trademark status, and significantly higher compensation and punitive damages overall. Ai-Leen will also highlight best practice tips as we look at each case in closer detail that will inform your China trademark strategy early on.

Have your ever felt puzzled about by the behavior of a global colleague and thought something along the lines of: Why didn’t they say no if they meant no? Why didn’t they say that they couldn’t meet the agreed deadline? Why didn’t they just say it like it is???
The explanation is most likely that they actually did say this! They just said it in a different way than what you’re used to.
If you want to avoid ending up in these kinds of situations in the future, the first step is to become aware of how you and your global colleagues typically prefer to communicate.
During the short webinar I’ll introduce you to the term ‘Low-high context communication’ and by using many real-life-examples and cases we will take our departure point in the difference btw DK and CN communication and you will walk away with insight and a few practical things to do and not to do to maximize your output in your cross-cultural communication.

This webinar is part of the webinar series 'Staying in Dialogue with China'. The series will bring you six webinars with China-based experts, concentrated on H1, between February and June 2023.
'Staying in Dialogue with China', is organized and hosted by the Stein am Rhein Symposium (stars) in cooperation with China Macro Group (CMG), The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), Swiss Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), Danish-Chinese Business Forum (DCBF) and SwissCham China.
At this first session, stars Foundation Board Member Markus Hermann, Managing Director at China Macro Group, will be talking to Joerg Wuttke, President, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China ; Member, stars International Board, Beijing, about China’s economy post-Covid.
With 3%, the country in 2022 recorded the worst economic performance since 1976 – with the exception of 2020, the year Covid hit the world. A strict “zero Covid” policy that at times had put metropolitan regions that account for up to 40% of China’s GDP under lockdown, an international environment dampened by Russia’s unjustified war in Ukraine and global protectionist tendencies, as well as domestic regulatory measures – most notably in real estate – have dealt a heavy blow to the second largest economy in the world.
Now, with Covid restrictions lifted, businesses and investors wonder what 2023 might have in store, and how the Chinese economy will fare beyond 2023. Can we expect a quick recovery on the back of so-called revenge spending by consumers largely contained to their homes in 2022? Does the Chinese government manage to restore confidence among consumers and businesses and stabilize capital and real estate markets? And what do these trends and developments mean for foreign businesses and their China strategies?
Kindly note that all webinars of this series are held under Chatham House Rules and will not be recorded.
