Chinese AI, Software, and Automation

Date: June 16, 2026

Event: Focus Group Meeting

Time: 15:00-17:00 CEST

renewable-energy

Speaker: Roman Jurowetzki, Associate Professor, Aalborg University and Chief Scientist, CAISA (National Center for AI in Society)

Location: Novo Nordisk A/S, Novo Allé 1, 2880 Bagsværd, Denmark

For almost three decades, Danish companies have run production in China through subsidiaries that have been and are relying on updates and direction from their headquarters in Denmark with respect to technology and software updates. But now, Chinese players in AI, software and automation are increasingly recognized as being among the global leaders. Locally in China, Chinese competitors of the Danish subsidiaries are free to leverage these cutting-edge technologies, and they used them to set up automated 'dark factories' and integrate large language models like DeepSeeks and Qwen into their tech stack.

At the meeting, we discuss China's evolving AI ecosystem, the consequences of China's growing industrial AI adoptin and explore potential consequences for Danish subsidiaries in China.

Topics include:

  • Are Chinese IT solutions (including AI) actually getting better than US/European ones?
  • Tech/digital/data sphere: "China for China", "China for world", "China for global", "Global for China"
  • How much Chinese hardware and software should we use in our Chinese business compared to global (usually American) solution?
  • What are the risks compared to dependency on the US?
  • High strategic level for insourcing vs global sourcing in tech, and also how to implement security software in Chinese regulatory environment?

The programme includes a presentation by Roman Jurowetzki followed by a panel discussion with Bent Dalager, Partner, KPMG.

The meeting will cover China’s evolving AI ecosystem and the growing role of industrial AI adoption. Examining how Chinese companies are increasingly driven by a management focus on speed and trial-and-error approaches, including the use of “vibe coding” principles and methods to support AI integration. Roman will also discuss how these developments may contribute to productivity gains and enhanced competitiveness.

The discussion seeks to explore the practical realities surrounding the strategic choices Danish and international subsidiaries make regarding whether to adopt the Chinese tech stack in their operations, as well as the key considerations shaping these decisions.

NB: The Focus Group Meeting is 'by invitation only'. If you would like to participate but have not received an invitation, please reach out to Deputy Secretary General Martin Bech at mb@dcbf.dk

A New Path for Personal Information Exports in China - The Chinese "Standard Contractual Clauses"

Event: Webinar

Over the past few years, China has imposed some restrictions on cross-border data transfers. Like the European Commision, the Chinese regulators have recently issued a standard Contract for Personal Information Exports (the Chinese "SCCs"). Qualified companies will need to sign the SCCs, conduct an impact assessment, and file with the Chinese regulators by 30 November 2023. It is important for companies that operate in China to take compliance actions as soon as possible to avoid legal consequences.

In this webinar, our speaker, Samuel Yang, Partner at AnJie Broad Law Firm, will introduce all that you need to know about the SCCs, including:

  • The Chinese cross-border data transfer legal regime: Samuel will introduce the basic legal framework for cross-border data transfers in China, which consists of three "legal paths".
  • The SCCs as a legal path: Samuel will explain in detail about the conditions for using the SCCs, what the SCCs entail, and the procedures for the filing.
  • Challenges that lie ahead and how to address them: Samuel will then share his insight into the common problems that companies encounter during the filing process based on his rich practical experience.
  • Necessary steps: Samuel will finally break down the whole process into practical steps, so that companies can conduct the work in a structured manner.

European Business in China Business Conference Survey Banner

European Business in China: Business Confidence Survey

Date: June 29, 2023

Time: 15:00 - 16:15 (CEST)

Event: Other

The EU-China Business Association, BusinessEurope and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China are pleased to invite you to join this hybrid conference of the European Chamber’s annual Business Confidence Survey, where Mr Jens Eskelund, European Chamber President, will share the key findings of this year’s survey outlining European business sentiment in China.

Venue
Online and Adenauer Room, BusinessEurope, Avenue de Cortenbergh 168, 1000 Brussels

Background
Since China ended its ‘zero-COVID’ strategy, Chinese officials have been on a charm offensive in an attempt to restore the country’s allure as an investment destination. However, more will need to be done if China is to successfully reverse the deterioration of business sentiment that has taken place over the past three years.

European companies have already begun shifting investments overseas and, faced with growing risks and a more volatile operating environment, many have adjusted their investment and operational strategies. There is now an increased focus on making operations more durable — for example, through localisation or diversification of supply chains — as opposed to capturing market share. With China’s economy facing numerous headwinds, this trend appears set to continue at least into the medium-term.

Agenda
14h30-15h00: Registration and networking
15h00-15h05: Welcome and introduction
Mrs Luisa Santos, Deputy Director General, BusinessEurope
15h05-15h15: Opening remarks
Ms Gwenn Sonck, Executive Director, EU-China Business Association

Mr Jens Eskelund, Chairman, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China
15h50-16h15: Discussion and Q&A,
Moderated by Mrs Luisa Santos, Deputy Director General, BusinessEurope

European Business in China Business Conference Survey Banner

European Business in China: Business Confidence Survey

Date: June 29, 2023

14h30-15h00: Registration and networking
15h00-15h05: Welcome and introduction
